MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE(MOOC)
MOOCs are recently and widely researched development in distance education which were first introduced in 2008
It became popularized mode of learning from 2012 onwards.
MOOC is a model for delivering learning content online to any person who wants to take a course with no limit on attendance.
It is a free web based distance learning program that is designed for the participation of large number of geographically dispersed students
This course may be patterned on a college or university model
It does not provide academic credits but provide education that enable certification, employment or further studies
There were RSS feeds for materials
Participation facilitated through various venues like MOODLE, Blog posts, Second Life and Real Time online meetings.
The first large collection of MOOC resource made available by Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT) Open Course Ware (OCW) in 2011
SWAYAM
SWAYAM stands for "Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds".
It was launched on 9th July 2017 by Honorable President of India
It is an Indian MOOC platform
It is launched by MHRD (now it is Ministry of Education) Government of India.
It is a part of Digital India concept
It is free entry to web course, covering all advanced education, high school education and skill sector courses
This platform offers free access to everyone and provide courses from class 9 to post graduate
It enables professors and faculties of centrally funded institutes like IITs. IIMs, IISERs etc. to teach students
It has been developed co-operatively by MHRD and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) with the help of Microsoft
It is equipped by 2000 courses
Learning in SWAYAM has 4 parts
1. E-Tutorial
2. E-Content
3. Discussion Forums
4. Assessment
E-Tutorial is the direct teaching by using video, animation, PPT, Podcast and so on
E-Content includes e-books, illustrations, case studies, Open Course Content etc.
Discussion Forums are part of student activities through which students can interact with other students and faculty members to clear doubts
Self assessment means to check what a student have studied and whether they eligible for certificates.
These courses are valid in the country.
It can be defined as communication which uses electronic media to transmit the information or messages using computers, e-mails, video calling, blogs, text messaging, discussion forums etc.
